Every month, my roommate and I mix up a cocktail and settle in for a few episodes of Golden Girls. It’s a chance to unwind, catch up, and build skills as amateur bartenders. Follow this ongoing series of cocktails to suit the season! Read part four, mango peach sangria, here.
I’m not really a whiskey drinker: whether scotch, bourbon, rye, Tennessee, or Irish, it all tastes like paint thinner to me. A sweet little bourbon sour from So… Let’s Hangout is just my style though: wintery, sweet and sour, with just enough bite. Why not make a little extra cinnamon maple syrup to pour on a steamy stack of pancakes?
- 1 cup maple syrup
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 4 shots of bourbon
- 2 lemons, juiced
- 2 shots cinnamon maple syrup
- Lemon wedges and cinnamon sticks, to garnish
Pour your maple syrup into a pan, and toss in your two cinnamon sticks. Heat on low until it comes to a boil, and then set it to simmer for five minutes or so. Remove from the stove and let the cinnamon maple syrup cool down to room temperature.
Pour bourbon, lemon juice, and maple syrup into a cocktail shaker, and mix well. Pour into glasses over ice and garnish the cinnamon maple bourbon sour with lemon and cinnamon sticks.
